Dr. Avinash Kumbhar is the CEO of Pune Knowledge Cluster (PKC), which is a first of its kind initiative established by the Office of Principal Scientific Advisor, GoI and hosted by IUCAA, Pune. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1993 from University of Pune. He joined as  Lecturer at Department of Chemistry, University of Pune (1991-2003). He was a postdoctoral fellow at University of North Carolina, USA (1998-1999). He was promoted to Associate professor at University of Pune (2006-2009) and was selected as a  Fulbright Nehru Senior Research Fellow at University of Houston, Texas, USA (2013-2014) he was promoted to Professor at same department (2009-2020). He was Senior Professor at the Department of Chemistry. He has guided 13 Ph.D students and 3 Postdoctoral fellows  are working under his guidance. He has 78 publications to his credit with total citations 2552 and an h-index of 23. He was also the founder-director of the Interdisciplinary School of Science at SPPU.
