Outbreaks of infectious diseases have been on the rise in Pune, a city with diverse and fluctuating communities with differential access to nutrition and healthcare. Under the Health vertical, PKC proposed to establish collaborations to aid in understanding the prevalence of infectious diseases using vector dynamics and viral epidemics. Data will be collected at city-level and analyzed to understand its correlation with outbreaks and design better preventive measures the outbreaks and design better preventive measures.

Genome Sequencing: COVID-19

Genome Sequencing: COVID-19

Genome Sequencing: COVID-19 – This project has been instrumental in identifying new COVID-19 variants and keeping the government abreast of the COVID-19 variants in the population, supporting and assisting in Public Health Decisions.
Waste Water Surveillance

Waste Water Surveillance

This is the first study in India to demonstrate the utility of sequencing in wastewater-based epidemiology to identify mutations associated with SARS-CoV-2 virus fragments from wastewater as an early warning indicator system.
Epidemiological and Clinical Database

Epidemiological and Clinical Database

The project will help in curating an open source database that enables researchers, and analysts to make city-level models for disease impact and progression.
Long-Term Immunogenicity Study

Long-Term Immunogenicity Study

This project aims to study the immunogenicity of the COVID-19 vaccines available in India.
Sero-Survey: COVID-19

Sero-Survey: COVID-19

The study was undertaken to initiate generation of data important for gaining insights into the spread of the pandemic in Pune city and estimated the sero-prevalence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in five high-incidence Prabhags (sub-wards).

PKC has been facilitating cutting edge research in the health domain. Some of these efforts have been recognized and mentioned in internationally renowned scientific journals.

The band of five outbreak data analytics approach, which integrates five different types of data, highlights the importance of a strong surveillance system with high-quality meta-data for understanding the spatiotemporal evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 genome in Pune.

We examined growth of incident confirmed COVID-19 patients before, during and after lockdowns during the first wave in Pune city that reported the largest COVID-19 burden at the peak of the pandemic.

To assess trends in case incidence and fatality rate between the first and second waves, we analyzed programmatic COVID-19 data from Pune city, an epicenter of COVID-19 cases in India.
